SEATTLE, July 1, 2024 – Following the Vatican’s announcement this morning of the upcoming canonization of Carlo Acutis, making him the first millennial saint, Castletown Media announces the production of Roadmap to Reality: Carlo Acutis and Our Digital Age. Coming to theaters in 2025 and distributed by Fathom Events, this documentary film explores the life of Carlo Acutis and the lessons he offers for young people navigating the challenges of the digital world.
Castletown Media was the production company for two of Fathom’s most successful documentaries: Mother Teresa: No Greater Love, a Knights of Columbus production, and most recently, Jesus Thirsts: The Miracle of the Eucharist, a Spirit Filled Hearts production. With Roadmap to Reality, Castletown Media aims to once again achieve box office success with a faith-based message.
Filmed on three continents, Roadmap to Reality blends live-action, animation, and documentary-style interviews with Carlo's family, friends, scholars, and tech experts. The film tackles urgent contemporary questions, examining how the rise of artificial intelligence and the virtual landscape challenge our fundamental understanding of what it means to be human.
Ultimately, the film presents Carlo’s journey, especially his devotion to the Eucharist, as a roadmap to reality, guiding viewers through the complexities of our digital age toward a future of hope, purpose, and relationship.
“Carlo would have been 34 this year,” says Tim Moriarty, executive director of Castletown Media and the film's director. “Were he still alive, I’m sure he would have helped people navigate through this incredible crossroads we are facing — managing the impact of technology on young people by drawing them towards a devotion to Christ in the Eucharist.”
"Carlo, as the first millennial saint, offers a unique and relatable example for today's youth,” said Jim Wahlberg, a producer on Roadmap to Reality. “Our goal is to present Carlo as a model of sanctity and sanity for our times.”
“Carlo is a great example to young people today,” said Carlo’s mother, Antonia Salzano Acutis, who appears in the film and is collaborating with the filmmakers. “Today, people feel as if they are in a tragic state if they don’t have access to the internet. However, the real tragedy is that our world is disconnected from God. Holiness is still possible. Carlo shows us that we can be saints in today’s world.”
